I’ll start with the design criteria for the garage. I wanted to take my 20’x22’ mess, which was so packed with junk that I couldn’t even park a car in it, and turn it into a place I’d enjoy working in. I knew I wanted to do more of the maintenance work on my track car. I wanted to be able to do other projects for my house there, too. It needed to be flexible enough to accommodate carpentry, welding and automotive work. That meant it would have to clean up pretty easily. I wanted a lot of work space -- as much as I could reasonably fit into it. I also wanted it to have kind of a retro feel to it.
Of course, some of what I wanted I figured out along the way. The garage basically has been gone through twice, once in 2007-2008 and then again in 2011-2012. As I picked up more cabinets and tools, the shop’s organization kind of worked itself out.
